Tourists Resorts
The small city of Murree offers a great deal to visitors. There are a lot of places which you can visit during your trip to Murree. Places like Pindi Point and Kashmir point are quite near so that in summer even you are not allowed to bring your own vehicles to these areas because of extreme rush. Other places like Patriata, Bhurban, Nathiagali and Ayubia far from city and you will need some kind of vehicle or transport to reach there. Following are some common places which you can visit on your trip to Murree.
Pindi Point
20 minute walk from the famous Mall Road, indeed it is the most near tourist spot from the Mall Road. The area is named Pindi Point because from here you can get a spectacular view of lights Islamabad and Rawalpindi at night. But the area is not popular for that but for its 3 km long Wonderland Chairlift. Yes, here you have an option to ride on the chairlift which will take you through lush green forest full of wild life and birds down to Bansragali giving you a spectacular view of hills.
This project of chairlift was started in 1989 by PARKS Pakistan Limited and consists of 68 chairlifts. The fair for the lift is quite reasonable i.e. only Rs. 100 (1½ $) per person. If you arrive Murree through Lawrence College Road you can see chairlift passing over the road twice.
If you are not a good walker you can hire horses to reach at chairlift spot. Horse riding is indeed another fun. But these horses are not available from Mall Road you have to reach Pindi Point main bazaar either by foot or by a tractor train. This tractor train is another interesting thing about Pindi Point.
Once you arrive at Pindi Point main bazaar you have two choices to reach at chairlift spot. The road splits into two. Actually from here it makes a round circle around the hill. People usually choose one way to go and other way to come from the chairlift spot. In this way thay take a round circle and then again reach to main bazaar. One side of the hill you can make spectacular view of Musiari village, and hills of Lower Topa and Patriata while on the other side you can experience calm and quite environment through dence trees and beautiful bang laws and hotels.
A century year old famous school Jesus & Mary is also located at Pindi Point which was built in 1876. This is considered one of the best boarding school in Pakistan. To arrive at Jesus & Mary you have to choose Jesus & Mary Road which also starts from Pindi Point main Bazaar.
The most interesting and controversial thing about Pindi Point is the Tomb of Mary (Mother of Jesus) or Hazarat Marrium (AS). The Tomb is situated in non public prohibited area of Pakistan Television Center building near next to tv boaster. You will probably not be allowed to visit that Tomb. The place is known as “Mai Mari Da Aastaan” among locals meaning “Resting place of Mary”. It is said that Mary died here in her way to Kashmir. What ever is the fact but this remains an unresolved mystery.
Kashmir Point
The most beautiful part of Murree city, full of natural beauty. The area is densely forested with old tall pine trees. It is the highest point of Murree and most coolest place. It is about 30 min walk from GPO, the center of Murree city through Bank Road. Like Pindi Point the way to Kashmir Point also makes a round circle right from the GPO. Most tourist choose Bank Road to go to Kashmir Point and View Forth Road to come back to GPO. For traffic the whole way is one way and same direction is used. But in summer because of extreme rush of tourists vehicles are not allowed to enter some parts of Murree city includeing Kashmir Point, Pindi Point and Jinnah Road(Mall Road). You have to park your vehicles outside these areas.
Kashmir Point offers escape from the hustle and bustle of Mall Road and presents very quite and natural environment with a harmony of natural and artificial beauty. By artificial beauty I mean beautiful hotels and government buildings. This area offer you to experience of post and pre British architecture. Here you will find modern Pakistani architecture dominating over old classical British architecture unlike Pindi Point where British architecture looks more impressive than Pakistani architecture. Some of the popular buildings include Presidents House, Supreme Court of Pakistan Lodges, Nawaz Sharif (Former Prime Misnister of Pakistan) House, Tehmina Doltana House, Cadet College Murree, Saint Denies School and Church, Italian Embassy, and hotels like Unique Heights, Wood Berry Hotel and View Forth Hotel etc.
As you arrive at Kashmir Point you will find two large water reservoirs surrounded by different branches of View Forth Road. To the right is a small elegant children park and small shopping huts. If your feet give permission you can move to left as well as right from here to some of more impressive places with more natural beauty. Or you can go back to GPO through View Forth Road.
On the way to Kashmir Point through Bank Road you will also find a hiking track which will take you down to Military Dairy Farms near Ghika gali through dense forest of pine trees. This jungle is full of wild life including leapords which are now rare due to human interference in the area. They are still in large numbers in the forests of Ayubia, Nathiagali, Kotli Sattian, and some villages of Murree. I could not forget the day in winter when area was under heavy snow and I walked through the track down to Dairy Farms. The jungle was looking like a paradise.
